/24-7PressRelease/ - PHUKET, THAILAND, August 28, 2008 - Discovery Moto Tours (DMT) has launched its 'around the world challenge', the first luxury around the world bike tour. Riders will follow in the wheel tracks of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, travelling 37,500 km (23,500 miles) through 27 countries in 18 weeks.
The expected 20 strong team of bikers made up from all walks of life with an array of bike experience will set off from London next year and travel east. The tour consists of four stages, if riders want to leave and join at. These are:
1. London to Istanbul, Turkey
2. Istanbul to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
3. Ulaanbaatar to Magadan, Far Eastern Russia
4. Fly to Anchorage, Alaska and on to New York USA
There is always a feeling of adventure ahead when you cross the English Channel but here are some of the many highlights include crossing three continents, traveling the mountain passes through Switzerland, Poland's Tatras mountains with 11 peaks over 2500m, and home to bears, lynx, martens and wolves. The pine forests of Romania, crossing Central Asia's largest desert, the Kara Kum, travelling along The Silk Road, and touring on through the Sharin Canyons of eastern Kazakhstan - a motorcycling heaven. Push on to the rolling expanses and beauty of Mongolia, with lake Baikal so deep and long it holds 20% of the world's fresh water and along the infamous 'Road of Bones'. Visit the Hardy Ice fields in Alaska, see Canada's grizzly bears, caribou and moose, ride through the Rocky Mountains to Dakota Badlands, past Mount Rushmore and the must see Niagara falls, and finally seeing the Manhattan skyline and you enter New York.
Riders will be travelling with extensive back-up. Two high specification Toyota Land Cruisers carrying spare bikes, parts and equipment follow the adventurers. The experienced team is medically and mechanically trained with further back-up from local 'fixers' and language specialists.
Though riders can take their own bikes, DMT provides BMW's latest sensation, the F800 GS, a lightweight bike designed specifically for long-distance touring especially tuned and prepared for the expedition.
There will be many extra excursions along the route on average two per country. These including glacier and whale-watching in Alaska, joining traditional Monglian skills and games where tour riders can participate and visiting a number of UNICEF funded projects.

Some people will use this challenge as a way to raise money for a charity or to discover things about the world and themselves. What better way to do that in a once in a life time experience."
Price tag for this experience is GBP29,995. This includes all paperwork including visa, fuel and the best accommodation in each area. Riders will also be sent along to a Ray Mears survival weekend, be given off-road riding skills course, as well as have a personalised fitness schedule and an opportunity to meet fellow members during the preparation.
For those who prefer a shorter adventure, DMT have a selection of motorbiking luxury tours ranging from 8 to 17 days covering Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
