/24-7PressRelease/ - MERRIMACK, NH, July 11, 2005 - Children ask the types of questions that make parents scratch their heads and wonderwhy they don't have all the answers. Such is the case with Amanda, the "inquisitive child" of Lynne Guimond Findlay's new book "Angel Eyes: Bedtime with an Inquisitive Child, Her Mother, and Her Guardian Angel."

The book's length (52 pages) and number of photo illustrations (13) create an initial impression that Angel Eyes is a children's book. But the book is targeted to "anyone who's ever been a child," insists author Lynne Guimond Findlay, who is also a fine art photographer.

Visual artists often tend to think in pictures. But on this particular project, the words came first, says Mrs. Findlay. As the story developed, ideas for accompanying photos emerged. The challenge was creating appropriate images that not only complemented each other, but that could be presented in a logical narrative flow.

Mrs. Findlay -- an experienced writer, designer, marketer, photographer, and web producer - took the project from concept through completion entirely by herself. She wrote, edited, photographed, art directed, and designed the book. She then self-published it through Lulu (www.lulu.com), a leading provider of print-on-demand (POD) books.

Mrs. Findlay, who has worked for a number of publishing companies, dismisses the idea that readers will only purchase books manufactured by major book publishers. "Readers are interested in quality publications, no matter who publishes it."

"Traditional publishing houses do have a substantial advantage when it comes to networking and distribution channels," she adds. "And they often have top-notch creative teams to shape a book into a format that complements the publishers' brand identity.

"But the ability to self publishing via. print-on-demand technologies provides an author with unlimited creative control to write, edit, and design a book exactly as he or she envisions it. With my background, I can produce a work of similar quality to that offered by most traditional publishing houses. Many authors try to disguise that fact that they published a work themselves. I think it's something to be proud of, not something to hide. The stigma of 'vanity publishing' no longer exists today, provided that the quality is also there."

Mrs. Findlay adds that there are several websites dedicated to promoting the work of authors who choose to take the self-publishing route. "For an author willing to do a tremendous amount of legwork," she says, "self-publishing is a viable and rewarding alternative."

The book (ISBN # 1-4116-3363-6) is currently available to order through lulu.com and major book retailers. Autographed copies may be purchased directly from the author.
