Doing Business with Russia and Cross Cultural Training
As trade links between Russia and the UK develop, better cross cultural understanding is needed to maximise the potential of future relationships.

/24-7PressRelease.com/ - Political and economic stability, government reforms and restructuring, a strategic geographical location and a huge consumer and labour base all make Russia a highly attractive business partner for the present and the future.

Trade links between Russia and the UK are continually strengthening. UK Trade and Investment quote a 43% rise in trade between the two countries over the past year. In addition, the UK is now Russia’s biggest foreign investor. Russians are also investing in the UK, most publicly highlighted by Roman Abramovic’s acquisition of Chelsea Football Club.

Indeed trade with Russia is at present a highly lucrative affair. Opportunities are to be found in the energy industries, construction, education, healthcare, security and consumer goods. However, many UK based businesses are tentative about dealing with Russians, not out of financial concerns but linguistic and cultural ones.

“Russia still carries some cultural baggage with it left over from the Cold War years,” explains Neil Payne, Director at cross cultural communications consultancy, Kwintessential. “At a personal level this has manifested in misunderstandings and communication problems between business people.”

Kwintessential are now offering cross cultural training courses to individuals and companies in the UK and Russia with the aim of building platforms of mutual trust and understanding. Their cross cultural training courses are aimed at a variety of business personnel including investors, exporters, managers and HR staff.

“Each cross cultural training course is tailored to meet the needs of our clients but most deal with key areas such as examining values, ethics, culture, business practices, communication styles and etiquette. The aim of the course is simply to break down cross cultural barriers to effective communication through equipping people with the skills to build profitable business relationships,” adds Payne.

Cross cultural training has in the past decade proved to be of invaluable assistance to businesses in overcoming some of the cultural challenges brought to the business world by internationalisation and globalisation. As the spaces between nations continue to shrink, it is vital that cross cultural awareness and understanding is fostered between peoples.
