Don Shula Hospitalized Due to Sleep Apnea?

The Dental Sleep Medicine education, instrumentation, and in-office training company, Sleep Group Solutions, discusses the dangers of undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea.

Although there is no cure-all for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, there are absolutely ways to treat and manage it. Oral Appliance therapy being a great way.

HOLLYWOOD, FL, May 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Breaking news this week, Hall of Fame coach Don Shula was admitted to a Florida hospital on Monday evening. His wife Mary Anne said in a statement, "Coach Shula has been admitted to the hospital due to fluid retention and sleep apnea."

The 86-year-old was treated, and released Tuesday from the Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Barry Freydberg, a Dental Sleep Medicine expert, and lecturer for Sleep Group Solutions, screens and treats patients for snoring and sleep apnea. "I am glad to hear his sleep apnea was treated," says Dr. Freydberg. Nearly 18 million people remain undiagnosed with sleep apnea.

"Mr. Shula was obviously fit and was able to age gracefully. And more susceptible to the medical complications of untreated sleep apnea with age, and less "tonic" muscles. Perhaps without the apnea these other medical issues could have been delayed?" stated Dr. Freydberg. During Dr. Freydberg's two-day sleep seminars, he discusses the dangers of undiagnosed OSA, and teaches dentists how to screen and treat the deadly disorder. "Although there is no cure-all for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, there are absolutely ways to treat and manage it. Oral Appliance therapy being a great way," says Dr. Freydberg.
