Don Wilson Named a VIP Member of Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Mathematics Education

    JUPITER, FL, June 28, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Don Wilson, Retired Educator, was recently named a VIP of the Year by Worldwide Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Mr. Wilson is a retired mathematics educator who began his career in the early 1960s. He taught for 36 years in middle and high schools before retiring from his most recent post with the Norwalk School System. His profession entailed teaching calculus, statistics, algebra and geometry to honors students, helping them achieve their goals and providing them with a quality education. Mr. Wilson was also a dedicated athletic coach who coached wrestling for 5 years and tennis for 24 years. He also officiated soccer and wrestling for 34 years, refereed basketball and umpired baseball for 14 years, was a football official for 28 years, and the ski club advisor for 34 years.

In light of his accomplishments, Mr. Wilson was listed in Who's Who Among American Teachers in 1995. He received a Citizenship Award from the Elks' Order of the Grand Lodge in 2003-2004 and 2005-2006 and an Old Timer's Award for Athletic Ability in 2008. Mr. Wilson attributes his success to his friendly and caring attitude, respecting others and enjoying his work. Now retired, he serves as beach director of Bayley Beach and house manager for Shakespeare on the Sound. He also volunteers at local hospices and at the Honda Golf Classic and at the Maltz Theater, and supports Meals on Wheels. In his free time, he enjoys golf, tennis, going to the beach and socializing.

In 1961, Mr. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science in physical education and recreation with a minor in mathematics from The Pennsylvania State University. He went on to earn a master's degree in administration from the University of Connecticut in 1964 and a master's degree in mathematics from Reed College in 1969. Looking toward the future, Mr. Wilson plans to continue volunteering his services and grow on both personal and professional levels.
