Specializing in endocrinology, diabetes, and bone diseases, Dr. Bergman is an endocrinologist and educator with more than 45 years of experience in his field. Board certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, and internal medicine, he is affiliated with The Mount Sinai Medical Center. A former assistant and associate clinical professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine from 1984 and 2004, he currently is clinical professor of medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and has been in private practice since 1977.

Dr. Bergman first studied at Dartmouth College where he received his undergraduate degree. Completing an MD at Jefferson Medical College in 1971, he then finished a first year residency residency in obstetrics-gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital, internship in internal medicine at Bellevue, NYU and VA Hospitals, and residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital., In 1977 he completed an endocrinology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital.

A chapter author of the book "The Mount Sinai School of Medicine Complete Book of Nutrition" in 1999 and co-editor of "Guide to Physical Activity" in 2006, Dr. Bergman is the executive editor for "Empower Magazine" from 2010 to the present. Additionally, he was a contributing editor for "The Complete Guide to Lifelong Nutrition" in 2011, and spent several years as an associate editor for "Endocrine Practice." He also contributed many articles to professional journals throughout his career in medicine.

A fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Bergman is also a Master of the American College of Endocrinology, where he previously served in various roles, including president. He was also president of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, , and has been president of the Board of Regents of the American College of Endocrinology Foundation from 2016 to 2017. While president of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, he started, with others, the Power of Prevention, now known as EmPower, a program providing information and motivation to patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders and to their families. He was president of the Mount Sinai Alumni Association from 2015 through 2017.

The recipient of a New Square Community Humanitarian Award, Dr. Bergman has been listed in New York Magazine's Best Doctors in Endocrinology, and in Castle Connolly Top Doctors in America and in New York. He also has been highlighted in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World nearly 50 times. Married to Susan Menin since 1970, Dr. Bergman is the father of daughter Melissa, son in law Simon and grandfather of Olivia. He served in the military from 1971 to 1977 as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves.
