BLOOMINGTON, MN, December 24, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The Sabathani Community Center in South Minneapolis had already helped 160 families with 469 children get toys but in a miscommunication with the Salvation Army's "Toys for Tots" program, an additional 131 children were left unaccounted for. Now, the imbalance in supply and demand has forced the SCC to call out to the community to make up the gap and keep stockings full for the kids who need it most.
Totally Kids, a children's furniture and toy store in Bloomington, was a first responder. They fortunately had an overstock of donated toys as a result of a previous toy-drive that they had undertaken for another local non-profit group, Parents United Against Autism. "We had such a great outpouring of support for that drive, that we outgrew the demand of the families that the PAA work with." Said Totally Kids Operations Manager Annie Seberson. "it was very fortuitous that we found a place to redirect those toys to and make sure kids are making the most of them."
However, there's still a shortage to make up although the exact number of items needed is unclear. Donations are still being accepted at the Totally Kids store (7876 Portland Ave. South, Bloomington, MN) until Christmas eve and at the Sabathani Community Center (310 East 38th St. Minneapolis, MN) right up until the holiday. If you expect some of your old toys to be displaced by incoming gifts, please bring them down as soon as you can and help make a child's holiday memorable.
