An expert in the medical industry, Dr. Kim was named the head of research and development for the UNDBIO Co., Ltd in 2018, having served as the managing director and head of the Welgene R&D center in 2017 and the advance cell laboratory of the ARIBIO Company, Ltd, since 2016. His areas of expertise include research in stem cell, immune cell, and orphan disease biotechnology, and he is renowned for his research in biocosmetic applications and tissue engineering using mesenchymal stem cells for anti-aging applications.
Prior to obtaining his current roles, Dr. Kim served as chief research and development advisor with Stem Medicine and Stem Medicare from 2013 to 2017, and as a director of research and development with Ozlbio from 2011 to 2013. Earlier in his career, he was head of research and development with the Prosthetics Institute from 2009 to 2011, and with the Kitto Life Goam Genetics Institute from 2000 to 2009.
Dr. Kim began his career as a student at Busan National University, earning a MS in 1990 and a PhD in 1992, going on to complete a BS with the National Fisheries University in 1997. He then traveled to the United Kingdom to study at the University of Liverpool School of Medicine, obtaining a PhD in 1997. In 1998, he returned to the Republic of Korea to serve as a research associate with Pukyong National University, and in 1999 he joined Korea University as a research associate. He joined Dong-A University as a research professor in 2000.
A respected voice in the field of medical science, Dr. Kim is affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology, the Korea Engineering and Consulting Organization, and the Korean Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society. In recognition of his contributions to the industry, he was commended with the 75th IR52 Jang Young-Shil Award, 1st in Technical Innovation, by the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Science of ICT and Future Planning. He was also featured in Who's Who in the World, 33rd Edition. In his spare time, Dr. Kim enjoys hiking and skate boarding.
