Dorothea M. Socea Named a VIP Member of Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Eggshell Art

    Augusta, ME, January 29, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Artist Dorothea M. Socea, Owner of Eggcentricity, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

For as long as Dorothea can remember she has been drawing, doodling and painting. Inspired by the diorama style sugar eggs found at Easter-time, in 1974 Dorothea began combining her artistic skills with her collection of miniature china figurines to create her own style of eggshell ornament art using real eggs. The eggs are hand cut, cleaned, painted and then decorated with bits of dried plants and other natural materials creating landscapes or scenes that complement each of the different figurines. While perfecting her craft, Dorothea developed new finishing techniques and a dustless cutting method for preparing the eggshells without the use of a Dremel-like tool.

In 2003, Dorothea wrote her step-by-step photo-illustrated craft book entitled "Eggcentricity, A Guide to Decorating Eggshell Ornaments". Dorothea's book was soon followed with her companion Egg Crafting Kit that includes paints, brushes, cotton balls, a handy drying stand with prop sticks, trim material for at least one dozen ornaments and the step-by-step instruction book.

She attributes her success to her creative spirit and imagination coupled with a love of miniatures and painting to make ornaments that tell a story, represent a holiday, or simply make you smile. A member of the International Egg Art Guild, she hopes to promote egg art by teaching her craft in small classes or one-on-one, travel to egg shows in other states, and start an 'egg art' group in Maine.
