Dr. Bruce Birch Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Theological Studies

    FREDERICK, MD, March 09, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Bruce Birch has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Birch dedicated five decades of his career to the field of education as a theology studies teacher. Now retired, he has continued in his work as a consultant for Wesley Theological Seminary since 2013. Previously, he worked at the college as a dean and professor with a focus on Old Testament and biblical theology. Dr. Birch also worked as an educator for Erskine College and Iowa Wesley College as an assistant professor of Bible and religion in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Driven by his religious belief and a passion for education, Dr. Birch is a certified and ordained elder by the United Methodist Church and has been honored for his work through his inclusion in Who's Who in America in 2010, 2014 and 2016.

In addition to his work as an educator, Dr. Birch is a published author. He wrote the book "Let Justice Roll Down: The Old Testament, Ethics, and Christian Life," "The Predicament of the Prosperous," What Does the Lord Require? The Old Testament Call to Social Witness," and co-authored "A Theological Introduction to the Old Testament" and "Bible and Ethics in the Christian Life." Additionally, Dr. Birch translated the Books of Samuel in the Common English Bible, and co-edited "Restorative Readings: The Old Testament, Ethics, and Human Dignity." Today, he continues to work on a per diem basis, offering his insights and expertise by contributing articles and chapters to industry and professional journals and publications.

To prepare for his career, Dr. Birch earned a BA from Southwestern College in 1962, and a BD from the Southern Methodist University in 1965. He went on to attend Yale University, where he earned a Master of Arts in 1967, a Master of Philosophy in 1968 and a Ph.D. in 1970. Dr. Birch remained a leader in theological studies throughout his career by affiliating with the Society of Biblical Literature, for which he was council chair from 2004 to 2011, and chairman from 2008 to 2011.
