    NEWBURGH, NY, November 6, 2009 /Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Dr. Clarence V. Cooper, Assistant Principal and House Administrator at Newburgh Free Academy in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in educational administration.

A 30-year veteran of the educational field, Dr. Cooper taught in Brookline, MA, Greenwich, CT, and also worked as a college administrator for Boston University and Bronx Community College before his assignment as a social studies teacher at Newburgh Free Academy. He is currently an assistant principal and house administrator at Newburgh Free Academy and has worked in several buildings as an administrator in the Newburgh district over the past 18 years.

Dr. Cooper has an extensive background in supervising, planning and developing new educational programs. He is a skilled educator and excellent communicator. His experience spans urban and suburban school districts as well as college administration. He is experienced in curriculum development with an emphasis on critical thinking skills and meeting the needs of diverse learners in multicultural settings. His broad-based experience in creating and. implementing dynamic and interactive programs complements his 10 years of classroom instruction and 20 years of administrative experience.

Motivated by a desire to encourage young people to stay in school and be successful, Dr. Cooper spent several years coordinating drop-out prevention programs which eventually lead to his involvement in secondary school administration, His current responsibilities include supervision, coordinating, directing and planning academic and high school support services. Along with other house administrators, Dr. Cooper assists the building principal in reviewing, approving and recommending modifications to new or existing programs and submitting their proposals to the superintendent of schools and the Newburgh Board of Education.

Dr. Cooper finds deep personal fulfillment in making a difference in the lives of young people by helping them develop their potential and promise. He attributes his success to hard work, dedication, and uncompromising faith in the ability of all children to excel. He is appreciative and grateful for the nurturing that he received from his public school teachers, college professors, and mentors over the years.

Dr. Cooper is a native New Yorker and a product of the New York City Public Schools. Passionate about theater and music, Dr. Cooper received his musical training as a voice major at the prestigious High School of Music and Art. He also studied acting at the Herbert Berghoff Studio and was a member with various off Broadway theater companies. He has appeared as a featured vocalist at various supper clubs in the New York City area.

Dr. Cooper earned his Doctor of Education degree with a concentration in Curriculum and Teaching in 2008 from Teachers College, Columbia University. Additionally, he received a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Boston State College in 1977 and a Master of Arts in Afro-American Studies from Boston University in 1975. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in history from American International College in 1974.

Dr. Cooper is a former high school and college basketball player. He has studied the martial arts and is a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He is also a student of yoga. In addition to physical activity, Dr. Cooper enjoys reading, listening to music, and dining out with his wife of 35 years, Greer. He is a member of the Newburgh Supervisors and Administrators Association, The School Administrator Association of New York State, the Newburgh Alliance of Black Educators, the National Alliance of Black School Educators, Phi Delta Kappa International, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Dr. Cooper is a deeply spiritual man who is committed to serving God by serving others. He gives generously to his local church and cancer support groups. Dr. Cooper aspires to become a central office administrator and eventually a superintendent of schools. Ultimately, Dr. Cooper would like to be an educational consultant.
