Now celebrating a 52-year tenure with Wayne State University, Dr. Luby is a revered professor of both psychiatry and law. His earlier career experience includes a presidential position with Comprehensive Psychiatry Services in Southfield, Mich. Further, he was the chief of psychiatry at Harper Hospital and clinical director at the Lafayette Clinic for more than 15 years.
Dr. Luby holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri and an MD from Washington University. His professional affiliations include the American Psychiatric Association, the American College of Psychiatrists, and the American Medical Association. A contributor to numerous articles, as well as several book chapters, he has earned recognition for his professional accomplishments. Back in the early 1960s, he received the Gold Medal Award from the American Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine. Many decades later, he won the Career Achievement Award from the Michigan Mental Health Association. Dr. Luby also received the Distinguished Service Award for 60 years of teaching, research and clinical care from Wayne State University, and the University established the Elliot Luby Professorship in the Department of Psychiatry at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Luby has been featured in the 7th and 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, four editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and three editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
