/24-7PressRelease/ -- Celebrate the holidays with Dr. Glory's Youth Theatre at the 2008 presentation of "Snow Comes in Many Colors" on Sunday, December 14, at 2:00 pm at The Riverside Theatre, 91 Claremont Avenue, in New York. Written, directed and choreographed by former Katherine Dunham principal dancer Dr. Glory Van Scott, the original Christmas fable taps into the musical and acting talents of some of New York's talented young artists. Admission is free.
The dramatic musical production is a holiday celebration that will fill audience members with hope and inspiration as they watch New York City youth come together to use the strength of their humanity and spirituality to overcome the ongoing battle of prejudice. Children of all ages are invited to enter a world of fantasy, dance and song while learning some of life's most important lessons of cooperation and acceptance.
Theatre educator, author, producer, dancer and playwright, Dr. Glory works with 15 - 20 children in a year-round program where the children are trained in the areas of choreography and singing. She produces two performances each year - this one during the holiday season and the other during the annual Family Arts Festival in June. Nurturing the creative talents and spirits of young people to bring truly remarkable results, Dr. Glory believes that children's theatre should be "international, interracial, intercultural and multi-ethnic" to provide youth with a rich experience.
Children, ages 12 - 17, receive professional training in drama, dance and vocal music, with the main thrust on drama and musical theatre. The training equips youth to continue with a professional level of training and a career in theatre, while providing them with the dynamics and discipline that will serve them in whatever area or profession they pursue as a career. All students are required to take classes in each of the theatre disciplines, conceptualizing the theatre as an umbrella for the arts. Because we live in a world of myriad racial, ethnic, religious and cultural groups, all Dr. Glory's Children's Theatre productions represent the diverse cultures of the student body. Through Dr. Glory's positive approach to creative learning, she demonstrates that a fulfilled life comes from oneself, one's commitment and one's willingness to work to make it happen.
