Dr. Hans-Olof Kvist Recognized for 50 Years of Commitment to Theology and Philosophy

    SANKT KARINS, FINLAND, January 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Hans-Olof Kvist has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Widely regarded for his knowledge of theological and philosophical studies, Dr. Kvist began an academic career upon receiving a Master of Theology from Helsinki University in 1965, a Licentiate of Theology from Abo Akademi University in 1968, and a Master of Political Science from the University of Turku in 1971. He went on to receive a Doctor in Theology from Åbo Akademi University, where he served in a wide range of positions, including professor for systematic theology, assistant professor, docent in theological ethics and philosophy of religion, lecturer and assistant. Dr. Kvist has been recognized as a docent in dogmatics with Helsinki University. He served as a researcher for the Academy of Finland on numerous occasions between 1967 and 1997. He has served as a member and deputy chairman of the State Committee for Humanities at the Academy of Finland 1989-94.

Dr. Kvist is also a member of Societas Ethica, Society of Sciences in Lund, and the Nordic Society of Theological Ethics. He is a former chairman and member of the Nordic Joint Research Committee for Humanities, as well as the former deputy chairman and member of the Board of the Research Centre of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland and a member of the Church's theological committee. In addition, Dr. Kvist is a former secretary of the faith and order section of the Ecumenical Council of Finland. He was a delegate for the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church in theological dialogue with the Russian Orthodox Church on numerous occasions. In 1998-99, Dr. Kvist was a member of a steering group for the evaluation of the education of the Danish Theological Faculties. He has served as the secretary general for Ordo Sancti Constantini Magni and has been recognized as a vice chancellor from 1999 to 2009. Politically Dr. Kvist was active as the chairman of the Board of the Swedish Seniors' Association of Finland (liberal).

A respected author in the fields of theology and philosophy, Dr. Kvist has contributed numerous articles to professional journals and other publications. His written works include, "Rudolf Bultmann on History and Salvation History," "Relation Between Faith and Knowledge in Kant," "The Theology of Antti J. Pietilä," "Studies in the Lutheran Confessions," "Kant in the History of Theology," "Emotion in Schleiermacher," "The Influence of Jacob Boehme in Finland," "The Interpretation of Natural and Christian in Ethics" and "Law and Ethics in the Changing Perspectives of Interpretation-The Finnish Situation." Since the turn of the century, Dr. Kvist has authored "Kant's Practical Philosophy in Schleiermacher's Early Manuscripts," "The Use of Christian language in Kant's View on Religion," "Schleiermacher in Finnish Theological Research," "The Relation Between Dogmatics and Philosophy of Religion", "Lutheran Ethics and the Common Values of Mankind" and "Dimensions of Human Dependence". A Festschrift called "Ratio and Fides" was dedicated to Dr. Kvist on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday.

In recognition of his contributions to the field of theology and philosophy, Dr. Kvist has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including several editions of Who's Who in the World, which were published between 1994 and 2007.
