BELLINGHAM, WA, November 12, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Joan Hoffman, Professor of Spanish at Western Washington University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of teaching.
Having served as a professor for 13 years, Dr. Hoffman excels in teaching 19th century Spanish peninsular realism, feminism and women's studies. Prior to her current position, she served as a teacher's assistant for Indiana University. Her responsibilities include advising for study abroad, teaching Spanish literature, culture and grammar, publishing articles, reviewing books, writing poetry, lecturing at conferences, and assisting the staff and students. She began her career as a tutor and progressed to her current position. She stays current with the trends in her profession by reading professional journals like Hispanic Journal, Hispania, Hispañofila, Bilingual Review and Revista Hispánica Moderna and attending literaay conferences.
Dr. Hoffman earned her Ph.D. in Spanish Language and Literature from Indiana University in 1994, her Master of Arts in Romance Language from the University of North Carolina in 1987 and her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Washington in 1984. She has published several articles in Hispanic Journal, Hispania, Hispañofila, Bilingual Review and Revista Hispánica Moderna. She is a union steward for her department and helps in organizing conferences.
