The daughter of Roy Dennis Foster and Gloria Yvonne Foster (nee Fernandez), Dr. Karen Foster Williams was born on April 12 1953 in Kingston, Jamaica. Dr. William began a long, successful career in pediatrics as a student at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, from which she graduated with a DM in Child Health in 1983, having received a MBBS in 1976. Certified as a medical practitioner by the Medical Council of Jamaica in 1976, Dr. Williams followed her graduation with a position as pediatrics research officer and assistant lecturer of the Department of Child Health and Ministry of Health from 1986 to 1988. In 1992, she was promoted to the position of associate lecturer and remained there until 2002. Since 1990, she has been a medical officer at the University of the West Indies Health Center.

Dr. Karen Foster Williams also worked as a committee member of the Organization of Disabled Students at her alma mater. From 1991 to 2012, Dr. Williams served as a visiting pediatrician at St. Anthony's Children's Home. She is also a member of the Pediatric Association of Jamaica, where she previously served as an honorary secretary from 2000 to 2002.

As an esteemed pediatrician, Dr. Karen Foster Williams has further contributed to her field as an author of articles to various research publications. In 2003, Dr. Karen Foster Williams was the recipient of the Physician Recognition award by the American College of Physicians. She also has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 30th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World. In 1981, she married Dr. Winston Williams.
