PURCHASE, NY, August 23, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Kazuko West has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

While many mathematics teachers end their work day at the end of the school day, Dr. West continues to work into the nights and weekends to find a way to improve the competency of high school students and their mathematics teachers while engaging issues that make mathematics such a challenging topic for so many people. Over the course of her career, which has spanned four decades, Dr. West has educated mathematics high school teachers and students from Japan, Korea, China, Europe and the USA. Since 2013, she has been the assistant head and vice president of Keio Academy of New York, a residential, college preparatory high school in Purchase, NY. Previously, she served as the chair of the mathematics department at Keio Academy of New York in addition to offering a mathematics education course in the Graduate School of Education of Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. Dr. West also taught mathematics at Miss Hall's School in Massachusetts from 1998 to 1999 and at public high schools in the greater Tokyo area in Japan from 1978 to 1997.

In recognition of her professional research, Dr. West was invited to join the faculty of Waseda University, Tokyo Japan, where she has been a visiting researcher at the Institute of Teacher Education since 2008. She was also selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. In a recent interview, Dr. West attributed her success to her own academic background. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in mathematics from Waseda University, as well as a Master of Education from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in mathematics education from Columbia University where she graduated as a Dewey Scholar at Columbia University Teachers College in 2005. Along with teaching her students, Dr. West's interests include mathematics teacher development with an emphasis on depth of mathematical knowledge, on-the-job training and mentoring.
