Dr. Konrad Soergel Recognized for Remarkable Career as a Physician & Educator

Dr. Soergel devoted more than 40 years of service to the Medical College of Wisconsin



For his research, Dr. Soergel received two Research Career Development Awards from the U.S. Public Health Service, and he has been named a senior fellow by the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation.

    ELM GROVE, WI, October 27, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Konrad Soergel has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Soergel retired from medical practice in 2001, and two years later, he became a professor of medicine emeritus at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he had worked for more than 40 years and served as Chief, Gastroenterology Division for 30 years. Dr. Soergel's unforgettable career began as an intern at Bergen Regional Medical Center. From there, he became a resident in pathology at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and a research assistant at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. His other past roles include resident in medicine at Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center, fellow in gastroenterology, and instructor at the Boston University School of Medicine. To prepare for his career, Dr. Soergel graduated from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg School of Medicine in 1954. Four years later, in 1958, he earned the title of "Dr. med" at the same university.

Contributing over 120 articles to professional journals, most recently in the Archives of Surgery and Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift, was another way for Dr. Soergel to be recognized in his profession. He also wrote more than 25 chapters for textbooks. For his research, Dr. Soergel received two Research Career Development Awards from the U.S. Public Health Service, and he has been named a senior fellow by the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation. He has also been included in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Soergel remains active in the field, despite his retirement more than a decade ago. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, the German Society for Digestive and Metabolic Disorders (honorary), and the German Society of Internal Medicine (honorary). Furthermore, he served as chairman of the gastroenterology and clinical nutrition study section of the National Institutes of Health. The work Dr. Soergel has contributed to his field will surely continue to live on through his past students, patients, and publications.
