ALLENTOWN, PA, November 19, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Laura Maureen Ludwig, a minimally invasive and bariatric surgical fellow at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in surgery.

After seven years of surgical training past medical school, Dr. Ludwig specializes in minimally invasive, bariatric, and general surgery. She is responsible for teaching residents via lectures, hands-on training in the operating room, and one-on-one guidance in the office. She notes that improving her patients' quality of life, giving compassionate care, and serving as a role model for young physicians are the most rewarding elements of her career.

Unwavering familial support is the driving force behind Dr. Ludwig's success. At an early age, she had a "calling" for the healthcare field. She first became interested in healthcare at the young age of six after helping to stabilize her neighbor's deep forehead laceration that was profusely bleeding. This interest grew stronger in high school after completion of a human physiology class. However, after the completion of a college cadaver lab, which led to her selection as a teaching assistant for the following semester, her surgical pursuit began. She considers one of her greatest professional accomplishments to be a co-author of the article "Laparoscopic Partial Splenectomy," which was published in the Surgical Endoscopy journal in 2007. Also, she has presented at various national and international conventions that are held for surgeons.

Dr. Ludwig received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Medical Association, the Michigan Osteopathic Association, the Macomb County Osteopathic Medical Association, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Association.
