HENDERSON, NV, July 30, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Laurie M. Flanders has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in leadership and administration.
Dr. Flanders has enjoyed rich and varied work experience spanning four decades. Her expertise lies in civic and educational leadership and consulting. A speech pathologist and teacher, Dr. Flanders manages to employ her talents in a variety of capacities. These include writing and publishing the book, "The Principals' Guide to Autistic Students in the Regular Classroom," establishing a school for disabled children in Nebraska, and presenting numerous workshops to various faculty and staff. Additionally, Dr. Flanders contributed to a team that represented a school district in several high-profile due process cases and edited textbooks on Nevada School Law and Constitution. As a former realtor, she consistently ranked in the top 20 percent of sales for the largest privately-owned brokerage in the U.S., where she was frequently selected to help train new sales associates. She has been a member of a private school board which was responsible for raising a significant portion of the school's operating budget.
Her record as a speech pathologist and teacher are just as impressive. In the course of her colorful career, Dr. Flanders collaborated with a medical team in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands to identify disabled children, and worked as a Speech Pathologist in Minnetonka, MN for 13 years. She has been a Gifted and Talented Program District Coordinator, and a Special Education Facilitator, as well as a school district Autism Consultant. Serious about her role as a life-changing educator, she is proud to have maintained relationships with countless students and parents since the 1970s. Dr. Flanders attributes the success that she has enjoyed in multiple disciplines to the support and encouragement that she received from the people around her.
A proud alumna of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Dr. Flanders earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership in 1998 and her Master of Education in Educational Administration in 1994. She returns to her alma mater to share her knowledge as a guest lecturer on special education law. Dr. Flanders also received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 1972 on a full scholarship. She holds certification in Educational Administration K-12 and Speech Pathology from the State of Nevada.
Dr. Flanders was previously nominated for National Teacher of the Year for the State of Nevada in 2007 and for the Minnesota Excellence in Education award in 1983. Her affiliations include the Cancer Kids Fund, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the American Heart Association, and the Nevada Speech/Language Hearing Association. Away from work, Dr. Flanders served as a member of the Nevada Relicensure Committee, as chairman of the Special Education Advisory Council, and as a Mentor Teacher. As eager as ever to spread her wings, she aspires to attain a position that will present fresh challenges. She looks forward to taking new opportunities beyond Speech Pathology that will make the best use of her extensive leadership and administrative experience.
