Dr. Margaret Pelton Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Art

Dr. Pelton is an art educator an arts administrator, and artist with nearly 39 years of work in the arts



    JACKSONVILLE, FL, March 17, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Margaret Pelton has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Pelton is an art educator and arts administrator who worked in the field of academia for nearly 40 years before retiring in 1996. Celebrating a career punctuated by passionate projects and creative learning, she reflects on her tenure as one strictly defined by her achievements. Dr. Pelton began her career as an art teacher with Miami-Dade County Public Schools in 1957. She went on to become an art instructor at the Kendall Campus of Miami-Dade College, eventually earning the rank of professor and promotions as chair of the art department and associate dean of humanities, District Director of Arts & Programs. Thereafter, Dr. Pelton became a founder and vice provost of the New World School of Arts, where she worked until her retirement in 1996. In recognition of professional excellence in her career, Dr. Pelton was the recipient of the Florida Art Educator of the Year awarded by the Florida Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association. She served on the Florida Endowment Humanities Board. She was President of the Florida Very Special Arts, and Board, Chairman of the Louis Wolfson II Moving Image Archive. She won a National Competition sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) at Constitution Hall, Washington, DC "Best in Show" and "Watercolor," "Sons of the American Revolution.
She earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dade Art Education Association. Additionally, Dr. Pelton was selected for inclusion into Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women, and 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century.

Dr. Pelton's award-winning artwork can be found in galleries across the country. Her most notable exhibitions include the Miami Water Color Society's Spring Exhibition in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003, the Miami Water Color Society's Fall Exhibition in 2001, the Macon County Fair in Franklin, N.C., the Watercolor Society of North Carolina's Western Regional Show, the Bet Breira Gallery, the Florida Professional Art Guild, the Bascon Louise Gallery in Highlands, N.C., the Jacksonville Watercolor Society's Show at Sweet Magnolias Gallery, and the Art Guild in Orange Park. Dr. Pelton's one-woman shows include those at the Kendall MDC Campus Gallery, the Richmond Cottage Deering Estate in Miami, and CC's Gallery and Framing in Jacksonville, FL. She is a signature member of FWS. Dr. Pelton also shows at St. Augustine Art Association's Gallery and has won many awards.
Before establishing her career, Dr. Pelton earned a Bachelor of Science in Art Education at the University of Miami in 1956, a Master of Science in Art Education from Florida State University in 1957 and an Ed.D. in College Administration from Nova Southeastern University in 1979. She remains at the top of her field by affiliating with a number of arts organizations, including the Florida Watercolor Society, the Jacksonville Watercolor Society, the Jacksonville Fine Arts Forum and the Art Guild of Orange Park.

In retirement, Dr. Pelton continues to develop and exhibit her art and attend Heritage Organization meetings.
