Dr. Maloney is a retired educator and physician in the field of internal medicine. He served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine for 27 years and as a clinical professor and director of a Mercy Hospital University Medical Residency Training program for 18 years. He then spent 2 years as an industrial research chemist. He also worked for 2 years part-time as a senior cancer research physician at Roswell Park State Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. He then worked as a faculty member of the Christopher Wren Association at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. until his official retirement in 2008. Dr. Maloney is a trustee and past president of the American Society of Internal Medicine, and a fellow, master and past president of the American College of Physicians. He was also an education leader for seminars at major medical centers in Canada, Mexico, Europe and South America.
A graduate of Canisius College, Dr. Maloney obtained both a bachelor's degree in chemistry and pursued a graduate degree in organic chemistry before earning an MD from the University at Buffalo in 1953. He went on to complete a medical internship at Mercy Hospital through Georgetown University, a medical residency at Buffalo VA Hospital, and a fellowship in cardiology at Buffalo General Hospital. Dr. Maloney utilized his knowledge as an active member of the medical community through numerous leadership and membership positions with professional organizations over the years. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and professor of clinical medicine, and a member of the steering committee to form a new national organization, The Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. He initially conducted a personal private practice for 12 years.
Dr. Maloney has received a number of awards and honors in recognition of his accomplishments. These include a Heritage Award from the Mercy Hospital Foundation, a Lifetime Career Achievement Award from the Medical Alumni Association of the University at Buffalo, and an Outstanding Medical Teaching Attending Award from Mercy Hospital. He has been featured in the 4th through 6th editions of Who's Who in American Education, the 23rd and 24th editions of Who's Who in the East, and the 24th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest. Dr. Maloney has also appeared in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
Dr. Maloney now resides in Williamsburg, VA, where he served as president of the Historic Port Anne Homeowners Association in 1997. He is also a founding member of the Greater Williamsburg Virginia Symphony Society.
