/Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Monica M. Jablonski, Associate Professor at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of higher education.
Dr. Monica M. Jablonski has 19 years of experience and five years of experience as Associate Professor at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Specializing in therapy developments for retinal diseases, she manages a research laboratory in the department of ophthalmology, designs experiments for employees, procures grants to secure studies, and disseminates facts in her field of study.
Dr. Jablonski has been featured by a number of medical journals, making it to the cover of the 83rd volume of "Number 4 Genomics" in 2004 and the cover of the 58th edition of "Differentiation" in 1995. Additionally, she served as a special investigator for the News Channel 3 Center for Discovery on September 11 in 2003. Currently, Dr. Jablonski researches cures for eyesight diseases. She was a moderator for The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology meeting session entitled "Retinal Apoptosis: Mechanisms of Protection" in 2000 and "Ocular Development II" in 2001.
In five years, Dr. Jablonski hopes to develop and test a drug pertaining to age-related macular degeneration and license her technology to a major pharmaceutical company. She attributes her success to date to her hard work and passion for her profession. The highlight of her career was being able to work with Henry F. Edelhauser, who she feels is an amazing scientist, educator, mentor and friend, and whose research she still emulates today.
Dr. Jablonski holds a Ph.D. in physiology from the Medical College of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and a bachelor of science in biology and chemistry from Mount Mary College. She also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in retinal cell biology at the Cullen Eye Institute through the Baylor College of Medicine and completed additional coursework in molecular biology and polymerase chain reaction at Smith College. Her professional affiliations include the Downtown Memphis Lions Club, Tennessee Mouse Genome Consortium, Wisconsin Association for Biomedical Research and Education and the Women's Faculty Association, to name a few.
