Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With 37 years in the field of religious education, Dr. Johnson is a leader in the Kansas City area for his work in theology, administering educational programs, overseeing faculty, and shaping academic programs with a vision that draws on a lifetime of study. He has served as provost and dean of faculty for the Central Baptist Theological Seminary for the last ten years, overseeing all academic operations, admissions, and 11 campus centers in addition to the fiscal management of the seminary's academic programs.

Dr. Johnson's educational background inspired his theological career, beginning with a bachelor's degree in religious studies from the University of Richmond, where he focused on church history and the history of western Christianity. In 1977, he became a Master of Divinity, and in 1984 he earned a Ph.D. in church history, both at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Through hard work, creativity and networking skills, Dr. Johnson became a professor of church history at Faculdade Teologica Batista de Sao Paulo, in Brazil, from 1979 to 1992. He is charitably associated with the Metropolitan Opera's National Council of Opera in Kansas City and New York City.

With the role theology has played in Dr. Johnson's life, he hopes to continue pursuing a religious vocation by helping his seminary grow as a higher learning institution in theology, as well as publishing philosophies and directions that contribute to the field, such as his book, "A Global Introduction To Baptist Churches," from Cambridge University Press.
