Dr. Stephen A. Zeff Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Accounting

An expert in his field, Dr. Zeff has dedicated more than six decades to his work as a professor at the higher education level



    HOUSTON, TX, February 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Stephen Zeff has been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest going back as far as 1967. For more than six decades, Dr. Zeff has met with success in the field of higher education. Today, he excels as a professor of accounting/Keith Anderson Professorship in Business at Rice University. Previously, he came to prominence as a Herbert S. Autrey professor (1979-2013) and professor of accounting (1978-1979) at Rice, Professor of Accounting at Tulane University and instructor at the University of Michigan and University of Colorado. Other noteworthy roles include professor of accounting at Monash University, Australia, and visiting professor at the Harvard Business School. Notably, Dr. Zeff has authored or edited a number of accounting books, including "Uses of Accounting for Small Business," "American Accounting Association, Its First 50 Years," "Forging Accounting Principles in Five Countries: A History and an Analysis of Trends," "Company Financial Reporting: A Historical and Comparative Study of the Dutch Regulatory Process," "Henry Rand Hatfield: Humanist, Scholar, and Accounting Educator," "Financial Reporting and Global Capital Markets: A History of the International Accounting Standards Committee, 1973-2000," "Aiming for Global Accounting Standards: The International Accounting Standards Board, 2001-2011," "Principles Before Standards: The ICAEW's "N Series of Recommendations on Accounting Principles," "Major Contributors to the British Accountancy Profession: A Biographical Sourcebook," and "Memorial Articles for 20th Century American Accounting Leaders," among others. He also served as editor of The Accounting Review and as well as its book review editor twice. He has contributed articles to professional and academic journals.

In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Zeff was named to the Accounting Hall of Fame at Ohio State University, twice received the Hourglass Award from the Academy of Accounting Historians, was the recipient of the Anthony G. Hopwood Award for Academic Leadership, and received the IFAC International Gold Service Award.

Before establishing himself professionally, Dr. Zeff prepared for his career by investing in his education. He attended the University of Colorado, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1955 and a Master of Science in 1957. Thereafter, he earned a Master of Business Administration and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1960 and 1962. In 1990, he received an honorary Doctor in Economics from the Turku School of Economics and Business Administration in Finland. In 2010, he received an honorary Doctor in Letters from the University of Waterloo in Canada, and in 2011, he received an honorary Doctor in Economics and Management Science from the Universidad de Alcalá in Spain.

Dr. Zeff is a member of the American Economic Association, European Accounting Association (executive committee 1981-2004), American Accounting Association (director of education 1969-71, president 1985-86, named Outstanding Accounting Educator 1988, Outstanding International Accounting Educator 1999), Texas Society of CPAs (hon.), The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (hon.), CPA Australia (hon.), Asociación Española de Contabilidad y Administración de Empresas (hon.), Harvard Club of New York City, and The Athenaeum.
