Dr. Walter Howard Delashmit Jr. Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

    JUSTIN, TX, September 12, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Dr. Walter Howard Delashmit Jr. a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Delashmit celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. For over 48 years, Dr. Delashmit has been an engineering executive, researcher, consultant, and application developer for the U.S. defense, space, and signal/image processing industries. He served for 25 years with Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, and currently consults on neural networks and image/signal processing. Dr. Delashmit has worked closely with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, and received a letter of commendation in 1979 from Rear Admiral Jackson of the U.S. Navy for his work developing advanced torpedo systems. He is an expert in the field of targeting algorithms.

Born in Memphis in 1944 to Walter Howard Sr. and Gertrude Marie Scott Delashmit as the third of six children. Dr. Delashmit attended all Millington public schools graduating from Millington Central High School in 1962. Dr. Delashmit attended Christian Brothers College to earn a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1966. He went on to earn a master's degree in electrical engineering and mathematics from the University of Tennessee in 1968, and was accepted as a member of the technical staff at TRW Systems in Houston in 1969. Three years later, he joined Martin Marietta Aerospace in Orlando, Fla., where he worked on spectral analysis and improved accuracy for radar signal systems until 1976. From 1976 to 1982, he worked with the Applied Research Laboratory at the Pennsylvania State University, where he developed microprocessor-based target detection for torpedoes. In 1982, he joined Lockheed Martin, where he engineered laser radar, target recognition, smart missile technology, and many more innovative defense technologies. Dr. Delashmit has contributed to numerous professional publications, and earned a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2003.

In 2007, Dr. Delashmit retired from Lockheed Martin; the company presented him with the 2011 Lockheed Alumni Spotlight, the 2000 President's Performance Award, and numerous intellectual property awards from 1982 to 2007 He was awarded a copy of the 1970 Presidential Medal of Freedom from NASA for work on the Apollo 13 moon mission. Dr. Delashmit is the recipient of a letter of commendation from Dr. L.W. Fung at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center for a paper on correlation guidance systems, and also received letters of commendation in 1994 and 1995 from Dr. A.A. Akerman III for work on the DARPA AST Program, in 2003 from Lockheed chair and corporate executive officer Dr. Vance D. Coffman, and from J.P. Laughlin in 1986 for work on several Lockheed Martin programs.

Beyond the professional sphere, Dr. Delashmit has taught as adjunct faculty in the department of Electrical engineering at the University of North Texas, coached little league, and volunteered at animal shelters in the city of Justin. In the '80s, he was a youth soccer coach at State College Pennsylvania, a basketball coach at his church and with the YMCA, and served as club master for the Longhorn council of the Boy Scouts of America in Arlington, Texas. He is a notably a life senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a member of the Tau Beta Pi honorary engineering society and a member of the Eta Kappa Nu electrical engineering honorary society, the Association of Old Crows and is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and Florida. He was previously a member of the America Statistical Association, the Automatic Target Recognizer Working Group, the Lockheed Martin Management Club, the Lockheed Martin Employees Club, the Fort Worth Runners, the Dallas Runners, Grapevine Runners, Toastmasters International, and the Optimists Club.

For dedication to the engineering discipline and achievements from the oceans to the reaches of space, Dr. Delashmit was welcomed for inclusion in five volumes of Who's Who in America, two volumes of Who's Who in Finance and Business, two volumes of Who's Who in Science in Engineering, the 1986 to 1987 volume of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and the 1987 to 1988 volume of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. In 1998, Dr. Delashmit married Janice Lee Reed Moncrief. Walter has 2 children, 2 grandchildren and 2 stepchildren.
