/Cambridge Who's Who/ - June 12, 2007 - London, England, June 4, 2007- Dr. Wolfgang Lutz, Chancellor, Professor, Dr. Med. Hebil, Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science of Dublin Metropolitan University and author of books and medical articles has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who as the 2006-2007 Professional of the Year in internal medicine. Lutz, an intelligent, inquisitive, and extremely hard working individual was honored on May 21, 2007 with the Freedom of The City of London Award for his contributions to the medical community.

After receiving his post doctoral degree in internal and air medicine from the University of Vienna and the University of Innsbruck, Lutz returned to his native village of Haag am Hausruck, Austria, to join his father's medical practice. A few years later, he moved to Ried im Inkreis, Austria and established his own practice as a consulting internal physician. He then moved to Salzburg in 1960.

Lutz's fascination with nutrition and the physiological effects diet has on the human body began in the 1950's and lead to the development of a low carbohydrate diet, some ten years before Dr. Atkin's version. Lutz's clinical trials of a low carbohydrate diet stemmed from his belief that a return to a diet similar to that of the Paleolithic hunter-gather would better suit the human genetic makeup better than a high-carbohydrate diet. Through his own uses of the diet beginning in 1957 and test results from thousands of patients, Lutz found the diet to have favorable influence on the endocrine system and diseases such as ulcerative colitis, heart failure, adult Crohn's and many more.

For over 45 years, Lutz has endorsed his low carbohydrate diet to patients and spread its message through scientific articles and books he has written, the most notable being, "Life Without Bread," which was revised and re-released in the United States in 2000.
