TROIS-RIVIERES, QC, April 30, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- In recent media within Edmonton, Alberta Canada, a teen died from using the
drug ecstasy at a monthly dance party held at the West Edmonton Mall. This young teen consumed a dangerous amount of ecstasy pills while attending the party, and was admitted into a local hospital later that evening, where she had to be taken off life support over the weekend. This is the hard reality about illegal drug use amongst teens. Unfortunately, this is the exact reason why effective and hard-hitting drug prevention is needed across Canada. Narconon Trois-Rivieres works everyday to prevent these situations from occurring. What happened here is a horrible tragedy, and our condolences go out to the grieving family.
Effective drug prevention is the most important step in preventing drug addiction, and the problems that come with battling a drug addiction. There are new stories being published everyday about teens being hospitalized or dying due to illegal drug use. We are aware of the consequences, and now it is the time to act, and get the real truth about drugs out to the public. Throughout the entire month of April and going into the beginning month of May, the Narconon rehab center drug prevention team has been working diligently educating hundreds of youth about drugs and alcohol within the province of Quebec, Canada. Our campaign, The Truth About Drugs, is being delivered to thousands of youth every year. Internationally, there is an estimated 185 million people using illegal drugs, and there has been no real significant change in this number. The Narconon rehab program is contributing a small part; nonetheless, there is so much more that can and will be done. Our drug prevention specialists use these
drug education lectures to reach children as young as ten years old. This is to make sure the youth of today receive the truth about drugs presented in ways that will stick with them.
The club drug ecstasy, which claimed this young teens life, is a synthetic drug made in laboratories. When this drug is made, many different chemicals can be added to it, such as amphetamines, opiates, and even poison. Mixing ecstasy with alcohol is a lethal combination, and when this happens the person could potentially die. This drug gives a stimulant effect, and when used at crowded events like raves, or dance parties, it can become very lethal. The combination of heat and crowded conditions will cause a user to suffer extreme dehydration, heart and kidney failure, and possible death. Prolonged use of ecstasy will cause long-lasting and perhaps permanent brain damage. The drug residues left behind from ecstasy use will remain in the fatty tissues of the body for up to two to five years after use, and can cause further drug cravings, and physical and emotional problems.
There is effective and informative drug prevention information available, and Narconon Trois-Rivieres is using it every day to help save lives. For more information about drugs, drug addiction, and drug prevention please visit out website
