/24-7PressRelease/ -- The number of homeless individuals and families is exploding in the Sacramento area. Many people who used to donate to worthy causes are now the recipients of community organizations. With this in mind, employees of Roni Deutch's Sacramento-based law firm planned and carried out a community outreach event at an affordable housing community for formerly homeless individuals. Employees of Ms. Deutch's tax preparation franchise company also participated in the event.
"I am extremely proud of all the good work that is being done by the staff of my law firm," explains Ms. Deutch. "We have been fortunate during this difficult time, and because of that good fortune, I believe it is important to give back. Our community outreach program is relatively new, but the planning committee has already been successful in helping dozens of local families."
On Saturday May 9h, 2009, employees of Deutch's law firm—Roni Lynn Deutch, A Professional Tax Corporation—and her tax preparation franchise company—RDTC, Inc.—spent the day volunteering at the Martin Luther King Village. The team spent weeks preparing for the event by collecting food and monetary donations. Then, on the morning of the event, they prepared and served a communal breakfast for all the residents. Following the positive response from the residents, staff, and the volunteers, Deutch's companies will try to continue the program monthly.
Martin Luther King Jr. Village is part of Mercy Housing, a nonprofit organization, providing affordable and no-cost housing to homeless individuals. Mercy Housing is a frontrunner in the "housing first" school of homeless services, where residents are accepted regardless of addiction or other issues. Once residents are secure in their new homes, Mercy Housing offers a wide range of social services. This includes counseling, substance abuse programs, and life skills training.
"The willing and able help of my co-workers made this event possible," recalls Edward Lester, an employee of Deutch's law firm and the person who planned this specific event. "Whenever I needed help, someone was always there for me. The same spirit of community was put into action at Martin Luther King Village to make and serve breakfast. A hearty thanks was extended by the residents to Roni and the employees of her two companies."
