Early Hot Spells of Humid Air are Threatening to Mar the British Summer this Year with Flash Flooding

Torrential downpours caused by humid air are could hit many areas of the UK and cause misery for millions of home and business owners.

POOLE, ENGLAND, July 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The mercury was rising on 10 June when thermometers hit an un-seasonally high 27C in parts of the UK to give the hottest day of 2015 so far. Experts correctly predicted that this meteorological combination would see thunderstorms and torrential downpours over the following 48 hour period and in turn there is a warning of the possibility of flash flooding as the season continues through July and August.

Heat and humidity create violent storms and although they can be forecast, it's impossible to correctly gauge the level of ferocity until they hit the shores. When very large amounts of rain fall in a very short time, flooding often takes place; particularly in towns and cities where sewage systems cannot cope with the huge sudden deluge of water. With five million properties at risk from flooding and this number rising year on year, attentions are increasingly being focused on the flood defences of once impermeable historic locations.

The instance of flooding in the UK is increasing and this infographic shows the increasing pace of change over the last few years. Perhaps the most striking evidence of how quickly the nation is under threat of potentially life-threatening flooding is the fact that London and the surrounding areas are increasingly facing problems. The Thames Barrier was closed only 4 times in the 1980s and a concerning 35 times in the 1990s, but since the Millennium it has been closed a staggering 100 times; almost 7 times a year in the last 15 years.

With urban areas such as Worcester, Boston and Nottingham being the three most likely towns and cities to flood in the UK, there are now more reasons than ever to have a family flood plan in place to counteract the unpredictability of the weather.

The solution that more people are turning to is FloodBlock. An award-winning flood barrier system designed by Fluvial Innovations, it acts to keep water out of domestic or commercial properties. A flexible and lightweight system, it can be deployed by just one person in minutes to stop water ingress. Used across the UK as well as much further afield by commercial and domestic building owners alike, FloodBlock is now hailed as perhaps the most viable alternative to sandbags which are slow to construct and difficult to use in an emergency. The small storage footprint of FloodBlock means it can be stored in a space as small as a shed so it's instantly accessible when the heavens open during the summer, or indeed at any time there is a flood alert.

Simon Phelps, Managing Director of Fluvial Innovations says, "As changes in climate become more apparent we all need to be aware of the necessity to protect our property and family. Whilst those who live in areas which are known to flood may already have a plan in place, flash flooding can happen anywhere. Having the FloodBlock system ready to deploy means that those affected are prepared if a flood threatens. Leaving things to chance at any time of the year is risky and it's not worth the stress and heartache of clearing up after a flood for the sake of not being prepared."

The FloodBlock barrier is a unique flood protection system supplied by Fluvial Innovations Ltd. Fluvial Innovations has been supported by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) in the development of FloodBlock flood barrier.
