The episode featuring Beijing, Shanghai, and Xian won the Best Tourism Award, and the one documenting the ethnic culture in Guizhou and Guangxi is the winner of Best Cinematography. The prizes are honored by Telly Awards, a competition that celebrates the best regional and global cable television programs.
Guizhou and Guangxi are autonomous regions in China mainly occupied by the ethnic groups and aboriginals. "The Southwest part of China is the best hidden jewels. Lacking infrastructure prevents large numbers of tourists' arrival or extensive media exposure. Everything's preserved for hundreds of years. The scenery is breathtaking, the culture is amazing and the tribes are endearing and beautiful, so we know this is where Karma Trekkers should go" says Michelle Lin, the Director of Marketing at E.A.S.T. Tours.
Despite the difficulty involved, E.A.S.T. facilitated a successful shoot for the world to understand another part of china that is authentic and exotic.
On the other hand, Beijing, Shanghai, and Xian are the well known triangles full of history and heritage where one must go to understand the historic and modern China. They help provide a general overview of the Middle Kingdom. The two episodes with extremely different look and angles supplement one another and inspire first time visitors and insiders alike.
