When compared to March 2006, the 169,330 mortgage approval reported in April was 22 percent fewer. The figure also shows that it was 12 percent lower than the mortgage approval on last year. It is also revealed by the figure that the average mortgage for home buyers in April was 140,400 which was 9 percent higher year-on-year.

The reason responsible for reduction in mortgage lending in April is said to be the limited working days. It may be mentioned that April was the month of late Easter with few number of working days.
