Easyjet Launches Surprise Route To Greek Island Kefalonia - Kefalonia.co.uk

    BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, November 04, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kefalonia in Greece has had a boost this week as Easyjet the low cost airline has announced a new route to the island flying from Gatwick. It is expected that the flight with run at least three days each week and will cover the busy tourist period stopping the service between November and April.

The island is popular with many tourists as it retains a typical Greek character that many feel has been lost by other islands where mass tourism has taken over. In fact - until the release of the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin staring Nick Cage back in 1994 the island was little utilised by tourists - a trait which now means it is one of Europe's more exclusive destinations.

There are already a number of flights to the island from Gatwick and Easyjet join the likes of Thomson and Thomas Cook in operating flights there in 2012. Russ Beech from island travel website Kefalonia.co.uk commented, "Increased competition in the flight cost to the island is fantastic news for us and should lower prices of flights across the board and should mean more people will be booking our Kefalonia hotels than last year."

With many holiday resorts in Europe seeing a 4% fall in visitors from the UK this year, for resorts on the island including Skala Hotels the news that there will likely be more tourists in 2012 is fantastic news. Hotels in Lassi - Kefalonia's main resort remained fairly full this summer but will always welcome extra interest from tourists.

With Greece being in the forefront of the financial news tourists are likely to be apprehensive about booking so Easyjet taking this step to back the island is fantastic news.
