/24-7pressrelease.com/ - September 20, 2004 - EasyTel announced today the completion of a two-and-a-half year long project to create a private communications network linking all of its points-of-presence in North America.

"GenieNet has been a long-term commitment for us," said EasyTel Chief Technology Officer, Stuart Scamman, "and I'm immensely proud to say we completed it almost a month ahead of schedule. This past week saw the last cutovers of almost 75,000 telephone numbers into our private network. Back in 2002 we targeted the end of September '04, and we did it early!"

The GenieNet infrastructure means that inbound calls, messaging and services among EasyTel customers in different part of North America completely bypass the traditional long-distance lines.

"A mother in Los Angeles will be able to talk to her daughter at school in Boston for a penny or so per minute, because we've completely eliminated the traditional long distance costs in the equation," explained Scamman. "Now New York City and San Francisco are as close to being 'local' as it can get. If your office is in Dallas and you have customers in Chicago, you can have a local number in both cities and get your calls without the traditional long distance charges."

The GenieNet cutover also enlarges EasyTel's local service coverage zone to include almost 80% of the US population. "And, Scamman continued, "this move gives us the first stage of offering local service in Canada and Mexico as one seamless North American plan! Just imagine being able to call from anywhere to anywhere in North America with a local call and no long distance routing charges!"
