Eccotopia to Apply for Permit to Use Mining Waste Water

South Africa's Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) has forwarded the permit application to Eccotopia for the use of mining waste water for the establishment and cultivation of Eccotopia's Megafolia tree plantation test site in Phokeng.
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, April 17, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julian Moses, president of Symphony Trade and Investment 57 (Pty) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eccotopia Ltd., , has announced that The Republic of South Africa's Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) has forwarded the permit application to Eccotopia to enable the use of mining waste water for the establishment and cultivation of the Eccotopia Megafolia tree plantation test site in Phoekeng. Phokeng is in the North West province of South Africa, and is the capital of the Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN) which lies in the Rustenburg valley. Phokeng was included in the "Scheduled Native Areas" under the 1913 Natives Land Act, which essentially transformed Phokeng and its surrounding lands into a 'reserve'. Platinum was discovered under the lands of Phokeng in 1925.

Eccotopia is moving forward with Phase 1 of the initiative. The ultimate goal of the project is the creation of jobs through the development, implementation and management of Eccotopia's Megafolia tree plantations. The Megafolia tree has been shown to be uniquely able to utilize waste mining water as the trees are cultivated, creating a welcome solution for the inherent mining waste water issues throughout the Republic of South Africa. Eccotopia's Megafolia trees are distinctively suited for the process of phytoremediation, as they are able to flourish utilizing polluted mining water which is an abundant by-product of the mining industry.

The Eccotopia Megafolia tree has been designed to provide a distinctively broad variety of uses including the Phytoremediation of ground water and topsoil, production of biofuel, the production of timber from which a wide variety of timber products can be made, biomass-to-energy production, and carbon sequestration. This broad spectrum of uses for Eccotopia's Megafolia trees will enable the provision of numerous new non-mining job possibilities in the region.

Eccotopia has developed a number of significant strategic alliances with environmental industry partners. We offer not only innovative, patented technologies of our own, but also an unmatched ability to provide experienced, objective third-party testing and evaluation of new technologies and cutting-edge approaches to site remediation, decentralization, forestation programs and pollution control.

We understand the dynamics of combining ecological and environmental improvements with industrialization and profitability. We have begun to explore linkages between ecology and economics, looking to create new kinds of partnerships and enterprise out of environmental protection and restoration initiatives. Eccotopia's principal commitments are to our partners and the environment.
