Virtual Family
- November 13, 2007 - In the USA the terms: Virtual Personal Assistant and Virtual Assistant are clearly understood by business and public alike, but in the UK the average person has no idea what they do, and although corporate businesses are outsourcing, the ripple down factor to the small business and sole proprietor is taking place.
Timothy Ferris published 'The 4 Hour Workweek' in April 2007, and it has become a runaway best seller in the US and Canada, and now is being vigorously promoted in the UK, to the extent that I saw the book on the checkout in Folyes, the London bookseller, business department yesterday, and scooped it up.
Ferris suggests that hiring a VA, virtual assistant is a key component to the entrepreneur in becoming rich, and finding a VA firm is paramount to a successful business, freeing up your time to do the things that you want to do, whilst outsourcing (offshoring) the chores that can be done virtually.
Perry, a friend in the US, suggested earlier this year that I should look at GetFriday in India who had a successful model in supplying VAs, but I noticed that according to their web site they were suffering from a shortage of resources.
Then I found CatchFriday who are based in the Philippines, and noticed that there services went beyond India's in diversity and competitiveness, to the extent that I phoned Angel one of their VPAs virtual personal assistants and was pleasantly surprised with the conversation that was lively, fun and I sensed that this was the firm I wanted.
I have been satisfied with Catch Friday's work, and continue to use them. I have spoken to a number of their VAs, and back-end team, and it is refreshing to note that I am not just dealing with one person, but a vibrant body.
Angel, my first friend at Catch Friday is about to have a baby, and I have even ordered some baby clothes to be sent over to her - having a VA is about a relationship too with a real person!
The position of virtual assistant has certainly liberated a lot of people in work, especially mothers, who can now work with greater flexibility in the home, whilst rearing their children, and juggling their tasks.
I wonder if the Angel of tomorrow will be breast-feeding, when I phone with tasks to outsource to the team?
Certainly I have been able to raise my income, diversity in offerings, by hiring a low-cost VA firm in the Philippines, and I would recommend the 4 Hour Workweek.
