/24-7PressRelease/ -- Jim Scanlon, chief executive officer of Scanlon, Guerra, Burke Insurance Brokers was installed as chair of the Economic Development Collaborative-Ventura County's board of directors at the organization's 15th Annual Meeting on Jan. 19. Kathy Long, Ventura County Supervisor, District 3, was installed as vice chair. Also at the event, Eduardo Flores, a regional plant operations manager at Seminis, the world's largest developer, grower and marketer of fruit and vegetable seeds, joined EDC-VC's board.
"As community and business leaders, both Jim and Kathy have the experience and knowledge to know what small businesses are up against, and how organizations like EDC-VC are central to business success and our community's quality of life," said Bruce Stenslie, president/CEO of EDC-VC. "I am glad to have them on our board along with Eduardo. He brings his knowledge and experience in agricultural industry priorities, global trading and entrepreneurship to our board."
As chairman and CEO of Scanlon, Guerra, Burke Insurance Brokers, Scanlon has grown the family business to more than $100 million in sales. Scanlon also serves as chairman of the Young Insurance Professionals of San Fernando Valley, director of the Insurance Brokers Association of San Fernando Valley and is on the board of regents for Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula.
Ventura County Supervisor Long is currently serving her fourth term as the Third District representative on the Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Long served as Chair of the Board in 2000, 2005, and 2010. She is a former small business owner, and is an active member of several service and business organizations, including the Camarillo Rotary; Chamber of Commerce; Boys and Girls Club of Camarillo Board of Directors, Co-Chair of RDP-21, the Regional Defense Partnership for the 21st Century at the Naval Base Ventura County; and Charter Board Member of the Heritage Valley Tourism Bureau.
As regional Plant Operations Manager at Seminis, Flores is responsible for three operational sites with more than $300 million in domestic and international sales. He previously served as Global Continuous Improvement Lead for Monsanto, managing teams in NAFTA, South America, EMEA and Asia Pacific Regions. Flores has a degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering form the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey and an MBA in Finance and General Management from MIT's Sloan School of Management.
