Edward Ward Stevenson, MD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    BIRMINGHAM, AL, March 14, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Edward Ward Stevenson, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Stevenson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. Stevenson is the son of a Presbyterian minister, was born in South Carolina, but grew up in Craigsville, Virginia. His undergraduate college was Duke University in the Navy V-12 Program. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore in 1949, following which he spent nearly 40 years in the practice of Medicine. His Internship was at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, as a commissioned Naval Officer. The following three years were on active duty as Naval Medical Officer, which added up to 7 total years of active naval service.

Upon return to civilian life, he entered a Residency at The Medical College of Virginia in Richmond in Otolaryngology, which was followed by a Fellowship in Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. Following training, he remained on the Ochsner Staff, and took an appointment as Clinical Instructor in Otolaryngology at Tulane University School of Medicine.

In 1957, Dr. Stevenson moved to Alabama to enter private practice in Birmingham and Decatur. He had academic appointments as Clinical Instructor and, later, as Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. Hospital Staff appointments included Baptist Medical Centers, University of Alabama Hospital, Carraway Methodist Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital, Children's Hospital, Veterans Administration Hospital and Decatur General Hospital. He served a term as President of the Morgan County Medical Society.

He was certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, and elected as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was member of the American Society of Head & Neck Surgery, and the American Society of Allergists. After serving as President of the Alabama Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Society, he founded the Alabama Otolaryngology Society, and was its first President. He was a member of the American Laryngological, Rhinological & Otological Society, (aka "The Triological Society") serving as Vice President, and Southern Chairman. In addition, he was a member of the AMA, the Medical Association of Alabama, and the Jefferson County Medical Society.

Dr. Stevenson's main hobby was aerobatic aviation. Related to that hobby was active participation in The Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham, where he was vice-chairman of the Board; the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame, where he was chairman of the Board; and the Birmingham Aero Club, where he served a term as president. He was awarded The Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award by the Federal Aviation Administration in 2016. Other interests were history and world travel, having visited 52 countries and 49 of our United States. He served three years as President of the Jefferson County Historical Association.

Married to Dorothy Giles of Huntsville, Alabama in 1947, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2017. They are the parents of four daughters, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He has been included in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
