El Dorado County Home For Sale Donates $20,000 To Charity

Former Netflix COO, Tom Dillon, is offering to donate $20,000 to charity in exchange for helping him find a buyer for his amazing estate in the Gold Hill region of Placerville California.

"The engineering alone is remarkable," said Kelli Griggs, Realtor. "The views are unlike anything I've ever seen - they are simply breathtaking.

PLACERVILLE, CA, April 27, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Local realtor Kelli Griggs recently listed the most spectacular home of her career; a 6,362 square foot dream home on the side of a mountain. Kelli, and the seller's, Tom & Judith Dillon, wanted to come up with a unique way of seeking publicity for the multi-million dollar listing. Instead of pouring thousands of dollars into advertising, the team came up with the idea of incentivizing nonprofits to use their databases & social networks to spread the word. Since Mr. Dillon and his wife Judith have such a great history of giving generously to charity, they thought that pledging the entire advertising budget (plus some) to charity would definitely kick start a viral campaign - all while benefiting a worthy cause.

"The engineering alone is remarkable," said Kelli Griggs, Realtor. "The views are unlike anything I've ever seen - they are simply breathtaking. Without the right kind of marketing it can be a challenge to sell a 2 million dollar home in a small town like Placerville, CA and with a one-of-a-kind house, we needed a one of a kind idea. We feel engaging non-profits to be our marketing firm, is truly unique. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then our marketing videos are priceless - we created a six minute documentary film that shows off the great features of the home, and interviews the Dillons, who share their story of how the home was built. The film is featured on the home's own website at www.goldhillhouse.com."

While all of the added publicity should help in Kelli's effort to find a buyer, at the end of the day it's about the property. The single most impressive thing about this home is the view. It is really captivating. Most would find themselves just staring off into the distance, getting lost in the majesty of Lake Tahoe's snow-capped sierra peaks. The view is what sold the Dillons and is what drove them to take on such a monumental task of building such a large home on the side of a hill. The Dillon's however are not going far and some have asked what their reason was for selling. The answer is they are building again nearby and acquiring two additional homes in Santa Rosa and Chicago, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

"You would normally just build a house on stilts in this type of setting," said Tom Dillion, Owner. "We really wanted a large usable yard with the house and the view. In order to accomplish this, a massive 450 foot long retaining wall was engineered and constructed. This allowed us a large building pad, yard and spectacular vanishing edge pool."

Kelli created a simple process to engage local charities to share the video online. Individuals and charities interested in helping them "share" the property can visit the website www.kelligriggs.com, simply register their name, charity information and then follow the prompts to share the post with their friends through social media. Once a buyer for the property is found, they will contact the individual who shared the post using the website registration data. Their 501c3 eligible charity will receive the $20,000 donation from the Dillons at close of escrow.

"While there is a measure of good faith involved from the buyer telling us how they saw the post, we have built in a backup plan," said Kelli Griggs, Realtor. "If a buyer found the house through conventional resources, or through an agent, the Dillions are still committed to writing a check for $20,000 to one of the charities that registered. If this is the case, at closing, the team will then document by video all the charity names going into a hat, and a "lottery" style drawing will choose a charity's name from the hat. The unedited film with be posted on the website, so all the participants can enjoy watching what winner is selected. The reason behind this is that the Dillions would like all charities to have an equal chance at winning.

There will be an open house extravaganza on May 12th, from 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Attendees will be dazzled by the property, enjoy a catered breakfast, and be entertained by El Dorado Musical Theaters cast members of Hello Dolly, with performance times at 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Hello Dolly opens at the Harris Center on April 29th.
