Elan Stephenson-Mitchell is a seasoned professional with more than 10 years of experience in education. Specializing in language arts and curriculum development, she teaches seventh-grade literacy, English, literature and social studies classes through the New York City Department of Education. In addition to her career as a teacher, Ms. Stephenson-Mitchell is the Owner of Elan Vital Creations, a unique jewelry retailer featuring customized creations.

In an exclusive interview with Cambridge Publishing, Ms. Stephenson-Mitchell described her professional motivations as driven by creativity and legacy. In fact, both her mother and grandmother were teachers. Today, she is a self-described "girlie girl" who wants to set a positive example for today's children. Said Stephenson-Mitchell, "I want to make a difference [by showing them that] hard work and passion can be very rewarding." Her jewelry company, Elan Vital Creations, reflects this belief and she has made a successful living from creating customized jewelry for special occasions and more. Moving forward, she plans to start a nonprofit organization to help children explore their creativity. She will also look to write and serve as a life coach for girls.

Ms. Stephenson-Mitchell holds a master's degree in elementary education from Mercy College and a bachelor's degree in human services. A certified elementary and middle school teacher, she maintains active affiliation with the National Education Association.
