-- Eleanor E. Harris, MD, department chair, professor, and radiation oncologist for the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.
Dr. Harris became successful in her field by identifying her trajectory early in her career. She attended college for premed, where she learned the foundations of research. When she went to medical school, she focused on oncology and did clinical rotations — this way, she gravitated to the area. Further along she resolved that she wanted to stay in academic medicine and prepare herself for a leadership role by participating in various activities.
At East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, she specializes in breast cancer and gynecologic cancer clinical research. She is responsible for overseeing a recruitment process and the selection of major capital equipment. This includes the growth of a regional center service line, including all departmental staff and faculty.
Dr. Harris completed her residency in radiation oncology in 1996 at the University of Pennsylvania. She holds an MD, which she earned in 1992 from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She holds multiple leadership positions within the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American College of Radiology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Between 2010-2011, she excelled as a fellow for Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine.
