Ellen Haygood Phillips Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Phillips has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of education

    OOLTEWAH, TN, September 19, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Ellen Haygood Phillips a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Ms. Phillips celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. For more than 45 years, Ms. Phillips has worked in a secondary school setting. Transitioning from a speech and theater director for a high school in Florida and Alabama in the earlier part of her career, she then became a debate coach at Vestavia High School in Birmingham before accepting a position as a speech and theater director once again in Virginia at Sandburg Intermediate School. By 1981, Ms. Phillips was afforded the opportunity to teach English at Fairfax Public Schools from 1981 to 1998. Going into private practice for herself in 1998, she then re-entered the Fairfax School District in 2003 in the same capacity as an English teacher and Communications Specialist.

While living and working in Alabama, Ms. Phillips also taught for a few years in the late-1970s as an English instructor at Lurleen B. Wallace Junior College. From 1985 to 1988, Ms. Phillips served as president of the Mount Vernon Woman's Club in Fairfax County. In the late-1980s, and again in the mid-2000s, she was also elected secretary of the Potomac Valley-River Bend Civic Association.

Currently secretary of the WindStone Residential Association Board of Directors and secretary and past-president of the Chattanooga Newcomers Club, Mrs. Phillips is a member of the American Federation of Teachers and the National Association for the Perpetuation and Preservation of Storytelling. During her many years in the classroom, she authored "The Tale-Teller Tells All," and the consumer advice books Shocked, Appalled, and Dismayed! and Fight Back and Win! along with numerous articles in professional journals. Additionally, Phillips has been recognized in national magazines and newspapers, as well as on television and radio programs throughout America. For the past decade, she has bylined the "Consumer Watch" column for the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Named Outstanding Young Woman by the State of Alabama, Outstanding Educator by the Jaycees, and Outstanding Educator by Fairfax County Schools, Ms. Phillips was awarded a Storytelling mini-grant for Fairfax County in 1989. Noted in Who's Who in American Education twice, she has also been included in several editions of Who's Who of American Women since 1991.
Completing a Bachelor of Science at Troy State University, a Master of Education at Auburn University, and postgraduate work at the University of Virginia, Ms. Phillips became certified in storytelling in 1989. Married to Bruce Harrison Phillips, she has one daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Cook. She also has six grandchildren.
