/24-7PressRelease/ -- To bridge budget gaps this year, several states increased their state personal income tax. Some states just increased tax on top earner, and some are levying taxes on all taxpayers.
For example, the California State Legislature included a 0.25 percent increase in personal income tax in this year's budget. That means paying additional state tax of about $125 for taxpayers filing jointly with $50,000 in taxable income, $250 for taxpayers filing jointly with $100,000 in taxable income, and $1,250 for taxpayers filing jointly with $500,000 in taxable income.
New York, Indiana, Colorado, Hawii and North Dakota also issued new tax rate. These changes required that the state Income Tax Withholding Tables be adjusted to withhold the additional tax.
