EMS in Self-Defense and Use of Restraints
PMRESTA is pleased to Announce a New Course Offering for Emergency Responders

PAUPACK, PA, January 15, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Injury through assault threatens Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers every time they respond to a call. Attacks can come from a violent patient, an angry bystander or an upset family member.

While most attacks are not life threatening, the risks of serious injury are obvious and unpredictable. All Emergency Responders, including Ambulance, Fire, Dive, Rescue and Fire Police personnel, should know how to avoid an attack, how to defend themselves in the event an attack, and how to work with, and assist police in emergency situations of a violent or criminal nature. That is why Pocono Mountains Regional Emergency Services Training Academy (PMRESTA), has developed a dynamic four-part program to address these very issues.

Instructed by NR-EMT Instructor and Law Enforcement Officer, Richard L. Bacon II and Master Martial Arts Instructor and Law Enforcement Officer, GM Hunter, our unique program emphasizes the proper way for EMS personnel to work in conjunction with Law Enforcement personnel. We train our students by using proven methods and tactics for the responder to prevent, avoid and escape an assault, and provides the responder with skills and techniques to prevent injuries to both patients and EMS personnel.

This program was designed to give every responder the opportunity to participate at his or her own comfort level. Dependent on the student's physical condition, some individuals may not be able to participate in the hands-on training and certification process; however, they will be afforded the opportunity to observe these sessions to gain knowledge, if not the practical skills.

This program will be held at the Wallenpaupack High School, Route 6, Hawley, PA on February 3 & 4 and February 21 & 22, 2009. For complete details and registration information, please visit our website at http://www.training-ems.org or call our office at 570-576-2929.
