CHIANG MAI, THAILAND, March 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People booking Thailand hotels may like to plan a visit to Chiang Mai for the city's annual mango fair.

Usually taking place over the second weekend in May, this agricultural fair celebrates the local mango crop with special events and an abundance of ripe fruit.

A beauty contest is held to crown the Mango Queen, while visitors using Chiang Mai hotels will be able to enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes at one of the area's traditional yearly festivals.

The mango fair is held in the central Buak Hat Park, situated in the south-western corner of the city's old town.

Popular with local people and travellers, this green space is also used to host other major events in the Chiang Mai calendar, such as the annual flower festival in February.

The park is famous for its well-maintained lawns and local families can often be seen enjoying a picnic there, while others use it as an exercise and sports venue.

For many people visiting northern Thailand, a trip to Chiang Mai is also a chance to see some of the area's historic temples, such as Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep and Wat Chiang Man.

Believed to be the oldest temple in the city, Wat Chiang Mai was built in the 13th century and can be found within the walls of the old town.

This sacred building contains the Phra Sae Tang Khamani - a Buddha statue carved from clear quartz crystal.
