/24-7PressRelease/ - EVERTHORPE, UK, November 22, 2007 - E.ON's Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station in Nottinghamshire has reached a major operational milestone as the first 2,000MW UK coal-fired plant to run for 1,000,000 hours - which is equivalent to more than 28 years of continuous generation.
The power station set the record in the early hours of Thursday 15 November, at 00.26 hours.
Ratcliffe-on-Soar was one of the first of eight major new power stations that were constructed during the late 1960's, and soon after commissioning in 1967 it established a reputation for being the flagship site in the CEGB fleet due to its reliability and efficiency.
Ray Smith, Plant Manager at Ratcliffe, said: "This is a fantastic milestone for the power station to have reached and is certainly a great achievement for everyone.
"We've been blessed over the years with a very robust plant, but more than that, Ratcliffe has been blessed with the people who have worked here and the pride they have taken in ensuring their power station sets the standard year in, year out."
The power station was officially commissioned in December 1967 and celebrated 40 years of operational excellence earlier this year with a special celebration. Employees from past and present joined local VIPs including representatives from Rainbows Children's Hospice, a charity the power station team have been strong supporters of, raising over 100,000 in the past decade through a vast range of events including last year's fireworks display.
