/24-7PressRelease/ - PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 17, 2007 - Transgender activists from around the globe stood up to applaud actor/singer Jade Esteban Estrada (2005 Performance Artist of the Year) at the 21st Annual International Foundation for Gender Education Conference: "Transgender 2007," Friday, April 13, 2007 after a performance of his solo musical "TransWorld! The Transgender History of the World" at the Philadelphia Hilton Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In the performance, the actor/writer explored the lives of Joan of Arc, We Wah, Gertrude Stein, Sylvia Rivera, Christine Jorgensen, Brandon Teena and singer RuPaul. The show was originally commissioned by the Office of Gender Studies at the University of California at Berkeley.

Halfway through the performance, the audience rose from their seats in applause after Estrada portrayed Stonewall veteran Sylvia Rivera in a well-known moment in transgender history.

"It was very moving," stated Holly Boswell, an attendee from Asheville, North Carolina. "It's a very important show for our younger generation to see."

"I have admired Jade for many years. He puts so much energy into his work. It was an honor to have him here," said Viki Owens of Philadelphia.

The five-day conference included 89 workshops and presentations, gatherings, socials and the IFGE Trinity and Virginia Prince Annual Awards. Estrada was the headlining entertainment.

Called the "first gay Latin star" by The Advocate and Out Magazine, Estrada has been seen on Comedy Central's "The Graham Norton Effect," NBC's "Friday Night Lights" and PBS's "In the Life TV." His music can be heard on the Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning police drama, "The Shield."

The San Antonio native attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. Formally choreographer to Latin diva Charo and a scratch vocalist for the 90's pop group the Back Street Boys, Estrada released his debut CD "Angel" (Vicarious) in 2001 and lent his golden voice to the CD compilation "Being Out Rocks" benefiting the Human Rights Campaign.

Estrada's other solo shows include "ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 1, ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2 (Winner of the 2004 Audience Favorite Award in Solo Performance at the Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival), ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 3 (Winner of the Best Solo Performance and Best Original Music Award at the CNGLTF), "Gay Chrisitan, Gay Muslim, Gay Jew" written by Jerry Rabushka, "Pico de Gallo" and "Tortilla Heaven" written by Celeste Angela Estrada.

In October 2006, Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher bestowed the title of "Kentucky Colonel" to Estrada for his work promoting goodwill and fellowship around the world. Other colonels include Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Johnny Depp, Mae West, Joan Crawford and Pope John Paul II.

Estrada will be celebrated during LGBT History Month 2007 in Great Britain. The comic has been named among 19 chosen figures in LGBT entertainment history by lgbthistorymonth.org.uk.

A popular headliner for LGBT conferences, he recently performed for the 14th Annual True Colors Conference in New Britain, Connecticut and the North East Regional Pride Conference in Cape May, New Jersey earning standing ovations at both events.
