What health risks does lead pose? A Columbia University study found in 1991 that it is probably safe to have wine with dinner from your glasses, though varying trace amounts of lead do leach out of lead crystal. Jerry Burke, the director of the F.D.A.'s Office of Physical Science, recommends you do not use lead crystal every day.
