/24-7PressRelease/ -- Gibraltar is a dream for boating fanatics. Perfectly located where the Atlantic meets the Med, Africa touches Europe, not only does the Rock have Cat 1 Red Ensign Group status but also what every yachtsman hankers after - low-cost fuel. There had however always been one thing missing - a marina worthy of the world's mega-rich in their mega-yachts. Ocean Village has stepped in to right this wrong.
The brand new marina fringed with bars, restaurants, boutiques and Gibraltar's only casino, has recently unveiled an ambitious programme to deliver premium berths - the largest accommodating yachts of up to 90 metres, a wallet-busting 295 feet. On the sheltered west of the Rock, these premium berths will have 24-hour security with gated coded entry to the pontoons as well as a whole host of other services.
Brian Stevendale, Sales & Marketing Director for Ocean Village, comments, "Thanks to the vision of Ocean Village, Gibraltar can now legitimately compete with other established marinas around the Mediterranean coastline. Our mixed-use waterfront project is all-inclusive with dining, entertainment, retail, office space and three residential plazas up to 17 storeys high accessing seven swimming pools and a health club. Not only will yacht owners want to berth here to take advantage of the cut-price fuel, but also genuinely enjoy spending time at Ocean Village and using it as a base for exploring the many marinas that dot the North African and Spanish coastlines. We know the demand's there; we already have a waiting list for our premium berths."
Brian continues, "As part of our marketing campaign we will be introducing the 'Ocean Village Privilege Card' offering crews concessions in certain stores, the health club and more. Our experience has shown that the boat people who come to our marina want to use the facilities and this will help them gain certain benefits for their loyalty."
Gibraltar is the most important ship refueling point in the Mediterranean, knocking Athens into the number two spot, and the reason is obvious. At the time of writing over 300 litres of marine fuel came in at 61.5p per litre (72 cents) in Gibraltar and 1.02 euros per litre in Spain. This equates to a massive 42% saving on the Rock which can mean hundreds or indeed thousands of pounds to a mega-yacht owner. Ocean Village has the pick of Cepsa, Shell and BP on the quayside.
Additional facilities at the expanded Ocean Village include boat-lifting, laundry services, wi-fi and satellite TV access, a golf buggy hire service to transport supplies, bathroom facilities with multi-jet showers and hair dryers, yacht brokerage and full concierge to include car hire, office administration and private catering.
Daily rates from as little as GBP15.50 for a 15 metre berth rising to GBP450 per day for vessels above 75 metres (low season). A 20% discount is available for annual bookings when paid in advance in full.
