Eyeglass World Warns that Computer Vision Syndrome is More Common than Many Believe

Prescription eyeglasses superstore Eyeglass World warns people about the dangers of Computer Vision Syndrome, a condition that is becoming more common.

ATLANTA, GA, May 31, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Those who spend the better part of their days staring at a computer screen should heed the warning signs. Eyeglasses retailer, Eyeglass World, wants people to be aware of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) and the warning signs that should prompt you to take a break.

More and more people are finding employment that in some way involves staring at a computer screen for long periods of time every day. Working in a profession that requires a great deal of computer use is fine as long as you follow a few recommendations.

If you are experiencing headaches, neck aches, blurred vision, eyestrain, difficulty focusing, dry eyes, or other discomfort, it is past time to take a break. In fact, it is recommended that when using a computer for a long period of time, you take an "eye break" by looking away from the screen every 20 minutes and focusing on something at a distance of 20 feet for at least 20 seconds.

Des Taylor, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at Eyeglass World, states, "Overuse is a common problem these days when it comes to the eyes. We now have so many electronic devices with screens that we stare at for extended periods of time that symptoms of CVS are becoming more common."

Whether or not you need prescription glasses, it is recommended that you have an eye exam at least once per year. If you do wear prescription eyeglasses, it is important to make certain that your prescription is up to date.
